It's that time of year again. Summer is nearly over and school has probably either started or is about to start in your area. My summer has been spent working on the art pages at Garden of Praise. They are not quite finished yet, but you can take a look at what has been added so far.
We have had stacks of books from the library on the coffee table all summer. I have researched the works and lives of famous artists and added material to the Famous Paintings page. Also you will find added works of art which were available at Creative Commons. When completed, each artist page will have an online and printable multiple-choice test and a library of books available about that artist.
The Van Gogh page along with others is now complete and ready for you to use with your students. It you have ideas for teaching about a particular artist, I would like to share your ideas with others, giving you credit, of course.
We have one new biography at Garden of Praise.
Benjamin Banneker who lived in the 1700's was a self-taught astronomer and mathematician. He printed an almanac for seven years beginning in 1792, and he once made a working clock carved from wood after studying the moving gears of a watch. Banneker was a remarkable man.A Personal Note:
Murray and I have stayed in most of the summer, only getting out to go to church, keep doctors' appointments and buy groceries. The heat has been oppressive here in Dallas as it has been in many parts of the United States.
We are dealing with Murray's Alzheimer's disease day by day and week by week. There are many things available to help in caring for a loved one at home. We have purchased a wheelchair and my neighbor built a ramp in the garage. I was fortunate enough to find on EBay a Medline ultra-light transport wheelchair that weighs less than 15 pounds so I can easily load it into the trunk of the car. Also we have obtained a sliding bath chair with a swivel seat which makes bath time a lot safer for him. If any of you are caregivers I would really enjoy corresponding with you.
We appreciate your participation in the Garden of Praise community. If you have not participated, we encourage you to do so. A list of birthdays is posted each day. You can send each person a quick email. When you get to your profile page you will see blue tabs. You will be able to post comments which will be public, or you can contact members directly by email if they have selected that option. You can add pictures (see the "instructions" for doing this). You can find friends, view your classes, or view the results of tests you have given. Over 3700 people have signed up to use the online tests. We would encourage you to add your picture to your profile to make our community a friendly place to visit.
We at Garden of Praise stand ready to help you.
