Thomas Robert Crutcher was born November 17, 1846 in Marshall Co. Tenn.

In September 1862, at age 16, Thomas Robert (Bob) Crutcher enlisted at Chapel Hill, Tennessee for a term of 3 years in the Civil War - Company C, 11 Regt. Tenn. Cavalry. On May 4, 1865, he was taken prisoner of war. Due to an accident in mounting his horse and reaching for his gun, he lost two fingers on his right hand. The gun accidently discharged , the bullet hit his hand, and two fingers had to be amputated at the knuckle.

Thomas died November 29, 1904 at Austin, Texas.
