Moving in a Model T Ford

Wilma and I helped Papa pick cotton, and one year before we moved from Joshua, Papa told us if we worked until noon that Saturday he would take us to Cleburne to the circus. So far as I can remember, that was our first circus.

When I was nine, Papa decided we could do better in West Texas, so he bought a farm at Plymouth.

At this time we had progressed to a Model T Ford. When we moved, we had that car packed from front to back. If I can remember correctly, we even had a few chickens in a pen on the back. So you can picture us looking like Oakies.

We moved to the farm which had a three-room house on it. We at least knew someone there. Uncle Charlie Austin and his family lived a couple of miles from us.
