As Jesus was passing by, he saw a man who had been blind all his life. He had never been able to see. His disciples asked him, "Why is this man blind? Did he sin or did his parents sin? What is the reason for his blindness?"
Jesus said," His blindness was not caused by his sin nor his parents sin. God wants to show his power through this man."
Jesus spit on the ground and made some clay which he put on the man's eyes and told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. The man obeyed, washed his eyes and he could see for the first time in his life!
His neighbors began to question, "Is this the man that was born blind? Is this the man we see begging all the time?"
Some said it was the same man, and others said,"No, it isn't the same man, he just looks like that man."
They asked the man how his eyes were opened, and he told them that a man called Jesus had put clay on his eyes and told him to go wash it off in the pool. He said Jesus had left and he didn't know where he was.
The Pharisees came and accused Jesus of being a sinner because he had healed the man on the Sabbath. They again questioned the man who had been blind, and they also questioned his parents. The parents didn't want to answer their questions because the Jews had said if anyone proclaimed that Jesus was the Christ, that person would be put out of the synagogue.
Therefore the parents just told the Pharisees, "Our son is old enough to answer these questions, go ask him."
The Jews went back to the healed man and tried to get him to say Jesus was a sinner because he had healed on the sabbath, but of course the man would say no such thing, His sight had been miraculously restored.
The Jews cast him out, but Jesus went and found him.
Jesus asked him, "Do you believe on the Son of God?"
"Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?"
Jesus replied, "You have seen him and I am that person."
And he said, "Lord, I believe" and worshipped him.
This is the twenty-sixth recorded miracle of Jesus.
