A blind man named Bartimaeus was sitting by the highway begging. He heard the multitude and asked someone what was going on. They told him Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.
Bartimaeus had heard about Jesus and probably knew of the miracles he had been doing because he cried out, "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me."
Those with him told him to be quiet, but he cried even louder, "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!"
Jesus stopped and asked that the man be brought to him. He asked him,
"What do you want me to do for you?" Of course, Jesus knew what he wanted and needed.
Bartimaeus said, "Lord, I want to be able to see."
Jesus replied,"Receive your sight. Your faith has saved you."
Immediately he could see and he followed Jesus, glorifying God, and all who saw it gave praise to God.
Matthew says two blind men were healed, but he doesn't name them.
Mark calls the blind man Bartimaeus, and Luke says "a certain blind man".
This is the thirty-second recorded miracle of Jesus.
