Christmas is a time of giving. Preparing gifts for loved ones is one of the greatest joys of Christmas. A friend and colleague, Gail McKinney with the help of her daughter prepared this unique gift for each of her co-workers at Dallas Christian. It is with her permission that we share her idea here.

Glass jars are available at Wal-Mart.
(You may not be able to find this particular jar now.)
You can also find jars at craft stores such as
Garden Ridge. The jars are made by Anchor Hocking and also by Libbey Glass.

The recipe she used is a slight variation of the
original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe.
In the bottom of the jar put:
one-half cup of brown sugar and pack it down tightly.
Next put:
2 cups of flour
one-half cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda.

Take the hat apart and fill it with chocolate chips.

On the card attached to the hat write:
"Cookies",
Add 1 egg
1 stick margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 8 or 9 minutes.

Options: Substitute 1 cup instant oats for 1 cup of the flour. (The snowman will be somewhat discolored, however.)
Substitute M an M's for the chocolate chips.

If you really have a lot of time to spend, you can put chocolate chips for the eyes, nose and buttons by securing them inside the glass with a drop of Karo syrup before filling the jar.
