The new school term is underway and we are ready to assist you with your lessons. We present two new presidential biographies this month.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States, played an important role in World War 1 training men for tank warfare, and during World War 2 as Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces. When he returned home as a hero after the war was over, people elected him as the next president of the nation.
During the war when he was moving convoys of troops around the country, he became aware of the poor conditions of the roadway system in America. One of his notable successes as president was the contruction of the interstate highway system which consisted of 47,000 miles of highways connecting the nation from coast to coast.
Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th president, had a heart for helping those in need and is credited with helping to insure voting rights for blacks in America and for signing the Medicare Act to provide medical benefits for older people.
However, as a man of questionable practices, doubts still linger today about the validity of his win in the 1948 senate race against Coke Stevenson.
I will continue to prepare presidential biographies this fall. I have started studying the life of Harry S. Truman for the next biography. If you have time to respond, I would be interested to know which of the following biographies would correlate with your curriculum and be most helpful to your students.
Woodrow Wilson
James K. Polk
Grover Cleveland
Bill Clinton
George W. Bush
George H.W. Bush
Richard Nixon
Herbert Hoover
William McKinley
Calvin Coolidge
